Pete Johansson to play the Comedy KARLnival

A night of socially progressive, intellectually challenging, yet accessible comedy from rising Canadian comedy star

TO GET an idea of Pete Johansson's place in the comedy world, his first comedy special, You Might Also Enjoy…Pete Johansson, was recently released by Netflix simultaneously in 82 countries.

Then there was the critically acclaimed appearance on Comedy Central’s This Is Not Happening; he is also one of only two Canadians ever nominated for an Edinburgh award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and has appeared in fringe festivals from South Africa to Australia to Singapore.

Galway will have a chance to experience Johansson's socially progressive, intellectually challenging, yet accessible comedy when he plays the Comedy KARLnival at the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday May 7 at 8pm. As The Scotsman said of him: "Johansson is assured, relaxed, open and gently hilarious onstage...This is observational, anecdotal, autobiographical comedy at its best."

Also on the bill is Alan Hurley, who the Irish Examiner said, "looks set to become a household name". He has performed at the Vodafone Comedy Carnival, Electric Picnic, the Edinburgh Fringe, and the New Zealand International Comedy Festival. Support is from Padraig Williams, described by Bunbury magazine as "a true storyteller...brilliantly satirical."

Tickets are €8 in advance from Róisín Dubh; www.roisindubh.net; OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; or €10 at the door, and includes free entry to the Silent Disco after the show.
