Irish Cheerleaders Stuntworx Elite Alliance, who train in Galway twice weekly, will once again travel to the USA to take part in the Cheerleading Worlds later this month.
The team, formed in 2015, won the first Irish club level invitation in 2016 to compete at the Cheerleading Worlds, the closest thing to the Olympics, and attended Worlds in 2017 and 2018.
The opportunity to represent Irish cheerleading is an honour for the club, which is home to over 200 cheerleaders in the west of Ireland.
Club head coach, Tuam native Hilton Holian, and manager, Jamie Byrne never dreamed the club would have a World Championship team when they set up the club in 2010.
“The idea that after only nine seasons of coaching teams, we would have a team that has been awarded three consecutive Worlds is just mind blowing. It’s a dream come true as a coach” says Hilton.
“It’s the goal of any coach to reach the full potential of their teams and we believe we’re doing this at Stuntworx.”
The club now requires help to send their athletes to Orlando. The season cost for each athlete is approximately €2, 000 including flights. The athletes have been fundraising with bake sales, selling raffle tickets and asking for support in their local communities.
