Galway County Fleadh 2019 launched in Headford

Fleadh to take place from May 17 to 19

PLANS TO host the 2019 Galway County Fleadh in Headford, from May 17 to 19, were formally unveiled by County Cathaoirleach Seán Ó Tuairisg last weekend.

Galway County Fleadh will comprise more than 1,500 competitors performing across more than 50 competitions in addition to concerts, a large session trail extending across the town, a céilí, as well as other events. The plans have been drawn up by the Headford-Kilcoona Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.

“We last staged the Galway County Fleadh in Headford in the seventies and at that time there were only approximately 10 practising traditional musicians in the area," said musician Matt Cunningham, who is also chair of the Headford-Kilcoona branch of Comhaltas. "Today I’m delighted to say there are hundreds, and Irish traditional music, song, and dance is thriving in the greater Headford region."
