SEVERE STRESS CAN TRIGGER COELIAC DISEASE

Coeliac Disease, also known as Gluten Sensitive Enteropathy or Sprue, is an immune reaction to gluten which is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye.

Due to an immune response in people with this condition the lining of the small intestine can be damaged and can affect absorption of nutrients. Other symptoms can include fatigue, bloating, loss of weight, diarrhoea and anaemia, if not treated it can sometimes lead to serious complications. In some cases, Coeliac Disease can go undiagnosed for years.

CAUSES:

Precise causes is unknown but scientists believe genes play a major role and other factors may include:

• Bowel infections

• Candida or Gut Bacteria Dysbiosis

• Infant feeding practices

• Stress – sometimes this disease can become active for the first time after severe emotional stress and trauma such as an accident, childbirth, viral infection, bereavement, relationship breakdown or any other traumatic event or emotional stress.

Dr Bhatti believes that people suffering from this disease should try to deal with the emotional aspects of their life, including the restoration of Gut Health and Microbiome, an essential part of his complementary therapies for dealing with stress and stress related gastrointestinal conditions.
