The 39 Steps - murder, espionage, and saucy romance

Diffused Theatre to stage classic British crime thriller in the Town Hall studio

IT IS a classic British crime thriller novel by John Buchan; made twice into a film by Alfred Hitchcock; and later adapted for theatre by Patrick Barlow. It is The 39 Steps.

Diffused Theatre will stage Barlow's two time Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning version of The 39 Steps in the Town Hall Theatre studio on Wednesday March 6, Friday 8, and Saturday 9 at 8.30pm. Richard Hannay's dull life is suddenly thrust into a world of murder, espionage, and saucy romance, with a cast of four playing a total of 150 characters.

"It has been an absolutely delightful experience tackling this challenging show with such a creative, committed, and talented team!" says Diffused’s artistic director, Emma Walsh. "We're excited to be performing in the studio for the first time, and cannot wait to have everyone laughing, hopefully, with us."

Diffused Theatre is a company consisting of local artists, NUIG alumni, and current drama students. The company's focus is on "fun and trying something new". The 39 Steps will be its third show.
