Mulkerrins wins Player of the Year

Galway enjoyed a hugely successful night at the GAA handball awards in Dunboyne Castle, winning three awards. Club of the Year went to Inis Mór Árann, Moycullen Handball Club was awarded Venue of the Year, and Martin Mulkerrins was crowned Player of the year - the first Tribesman to be awarded the prestigious title.

Martin Mulkerrins has enjoyed a stellar 2018, becoming the first Galway man to win the 40x20 All-Ireland Championship. This enabled him to captain Team Ireland at the World Championships in Minnesota, where he reached the 40x20 final, falling to Killian Carroll.

Moycullen as the club was named Venue of the Year, having opened a new 40x20 and 60x30 court. They won Club of the Year at the Handball Awards last year and have now received another accolade.

Inis Mór received the Club of the Year Award after an excellent 2018. The club continues to invest in to its handball facilities and the hard work of the handball community was recognised with this award. They become the second Galway club to win this award in the last two years after Moycullen’s success last year.

Niamh Heffernan of Claregalway was nominated for Young Female Player of the Year, Diarmuid Mulkerrins was shortlisted for Young Male Player of the Year, Gerry Kinane of Abbeyknockmoy was among the nominees for Club Person of the Year and Micheál Breathnachs Handball Club nominated for the Media Award.
