Canney calls on Galway research groups to seek funding under Government green energy programme

Galway East TD and Minister of State at the Department of Climate Action, Seán Canney, is calling on research groups to seek funding under the Government’s €4 million programme for projects aimed at greening Ireland’s national energy supply.

The National Energy Research, Development, and Demonstration funding programme is a Government initiative to fund innovative energy research projects. Applications are accepted from companies, public sector and semi-state bodies and research organisations, including universities, institutes of technology, and publicly-funded institutions.

Projects will be assessed for excellence, innovation, relevance, impact and implementation quality. Galway projects, including those from Westway Health and NUI Galway, were among 52 awards made under the programme last year.

“We need to take the lead in planning for sustainable energy,” said Minister Canney. “It is essential we invest in research and innovation technology to find ways of transforming ourselves into a low carbon economy.”

Applications are now open and will close on March 7. Further information is available from Minister Canney on 086 - 2513639.
