Exciting new further education courses at Galway Community College GRETB

Galway Community College continues to offer full time further education courses at Level 5 and 6. The GCC tutors are continually developing new courses and modules in line with industry trends in employment and links to higher education. New courses will commence at GCC in September 2019 in business, science, film, trades, sport, and IT.

The business and science department has designed a Level 5 retail pharmacy assistant course, a one-year course that will equip learners with the relevant knowledge and experience to work as a pharmacy counter assistant, or pursue a pharmacy technician qualification in the future. A new Level 5 business and accounting course is designed to provide an excellent foundation for learners wishing to progress to a Level 7/8 business degree course at third level.

In the ever expanding area of IT, GCC is providing two new courses at Level 5, computer systems and networks and introduction to software development. In these courses, students will be given an introduction to varied aspects of the IT industry such as computer hardware, mobile technologies, and distribution systems, along with networking and software development.

The popularity of apprenticeships has increased considerably over the past five years and new in this area is the Level 5 apprentice preparatory course in building trades. This further education course allows graduates to gain an appreciation of the range of building trades and gain experience in a variety of different trades and the skills required in each.

GCC's sports experts have developed a Level 6 ITEC diploma in Pilates teaching and exercise specialist. Successful students gain an industry standard in Pilates teaching and component QQI award in sport recreation and exercise studies. This qualification will equip learners with the practical experience and knowledge to gain successful employment in the sport and fitness industry.

The film department continue to be proactive in their course design offering mobile journalism and film production Level 6. The mobile journalism and film production course provides students with a broad understanding of the modern audiovisual media and its impact on the changing world of digital culture. This is a dynamic, practical, and vocational course that will develop your skills in recording audio and video, to the final stages of editing and producing for all media platforms.
