An Italian lunchtime with ConTempo

String quartet's from Scarlatti, Donizetti, and opera giant Puccini

THE SOUNDS of Italy will fill St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, when the ConTempo Quartet performs works by Scarlatti, Donizetti, and Puccini, at the next From Europe With Love concert.

From Europe With Love explores the string quartet repertoire from each of the 27 EU member countries. This concert will be introduced by Prof Paolo Bartoloni, head of Italian at NUI Galway.

ConTempo will perform Alessandro Scarlatti's 4th Sonata de Quattro, among the earliest known works for string quartet; Donizetti’s String Quartet No 5 in Em, written in 1818/1819 when the composer was 21; and Puccini’s emotive Crisantemi, an elegy written in memory of his friend, the Duke of Savoy.

The concert takes place on Tuesday February 5 from 1.10pm to 1.50pm. Admission is free, but early arrival is recommended. See www.thegalwaymusicresidency.ie
