Galway Actors Workshop 2019 courses

Beginners, experienced, comedy and improvisation, acting to camera

GALWEGIANS LOOKING to get into acting in 2019, or actors who feel they need to brush up on their skills for stage or TV, should take a look at the new series of classes from the Galway Actors Workshop.

Acting 101 (Thursdays ) with Barry Hopkins, is for beginner students who want to 'give it a try', while Acting 201 (also Thursdays ), with Sarah O’Toole, builds on skills encountered in Acting 101. Each course runs for six weeks.

The Next Stage courses are for those who have done courses, or been in plays, and would like to learn more specialised skills. These include courses with John Rogers and Zita Monahan-McGowan (Mondays ); Improvisation & Comedy will see students explore the finer points of stand-up, sketch comedy, and improv with comedians like Bob Hennigan and Órla McGovern (also Mondays ); Scene Study, with Fregoli Theatre’s Maria Tivnan, with students preparing scenes and monologues from established texts for performance (Tuesdays ). All Next Stage courses culminate in a live performance at the Town Hall Studio.

Luke Morgan of Morgan Creative and Project Spatula will host a six week acting course on Wednesdays, covering the basics of working in front of camera. It is suitable for those who have taken a beginners' course or have a small amount of experience.

Courses start on January 21 and take place in the Anno Santo Hotel, Salthill, from 7pm to 10pm. Early bird discounts are available before midnight on Thursday January 17.
