RICHARD 'HUMANITY Dick' Martin, the pistol packing MP for Galway, and founder of Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and Lady Gregory, a leading light of Ireland's literary revival, are the subject of two plays at Ballynahinch Castle Hotel.
Ballynahinch Castle, the former home of Richard Martin, will host dinner/theatre shows on January 27 and February 3, focusing on the lives of these two remarkable Galwegians.
On Sunday January 27, Curlew Theatre Company presents The Loves of Lady Gregory, a one-woman show performed by Tegolin Knowland, and written and directed by Eamon Grennan, presenting the private and public aspects of Gregory's life during the cultural revival, the Easter rising, the War of Independence, and the Civil War.
'Humanity Dick' Martin lived much of his life at Ballynahinch Castle and he 'returns' on Sunday February 3 in the form of Humanity Dick: A Tale of Beasts and Bullets. This acclaimed one-man show, written and performed by Seán Leonard, is a lively journey through Martin’s action packed life.
Each show begins at 5.30pm. Tickets are available from Ballynahinch Castle Hotel (095 - 31006 or [email protected] ) for €60 including dinner in the Fisherman’s Pub after the performance. Overnight theatre evening with bed and breakfast and dinner in the Owenmore Restaurant is €135 per person sharing.
