Fantasy Football round 17 preview

Another week of European action has ended with Spurs achieving their "greatest ever European result", a 1-1 draw away to a Barcelona B team and Mo Salah and Alisson Becker sending Liverpool through to the knock-out stage after a tense 1-0 win over Napoli at Anfield on Tuesday night.

It is back to domestic matters this weekend with Fantasy managers gearing themselves up for the mad Christmas avalanche of games. But which players should be selected for this weekend's round of games and get managers moving back up the Advertiser Tribal League in association with St Anthony's Claddagh and Credit Union?

Leroy Sané (Man City ) v Everton

The Citizens lost their first game of the season last Saturday as they succumbed to a 2-0 defeat in west London to Chelsea. It was a strange match for Pep Guardiola's men as they dominated the first half but somehow went into the sheds at the interval 1-0 down and all the class they demonstrated in that first period dissipated as they failed to land any blows in the second 45. I am expecting a reaction this Saturday lunchtime when Everton visit Eastlands and I believe the man to lead the charge is Leroy Sané. The German midfielder's record over the past eight weeks sees him score every second match and he did not score last week so you can do the maths. Get him in your team.

Felipe Anderson (West Ham ) v Fulham

With five goals and an assist in his last six league outings, Felipe Anderson is one of the main reasons why the Hammers are sitting pretty in mid-table. After a tough start to the term, West Ham have stabilised and are playing a brand of football which is getting them goals. On Saturday, they make the short trip across London to Craven Cottage where they face bottom of the table Fulham. The Cottagers are finding life back in the top flight very tough and have the worse defensive record at this stage of the season, in the history of the English Football League - that is 130 years. I can see goals on Saturday and Anderson getting his name onto the score sheet. Make him your captain for double the points.

Diogo Jota (Wolves ) v Bournemouth

After doing nothing and I mean nothing since the opening day of the season, Diogo Jota is the flavour of the month in the Black Country with the winner against Chelsea and scoring as well as setting up Matt Doherty in the 2-1 win over Newcastle on Sunday. Bournemouth are the visitors to the Wolves' den, Molineux, and Eddie Howe's men will be reeling after sustaining a 4-0 hammering the previous weekend against Liverpool. Wolves have found form after an autumnal slump and I can see them picking up three points again this weekend with Jota being the key man.
