GONE ARE the days when Fred Cooke was best known as Fergus from the Spar TV ads. These days, the guitar wielding Irish comedian has a CV that can justifiably proclaim 'rising star'.
Fred's star has risen with a high profile gig as the MC on The Tommy Tiernan Show. Both as writer and performer, he has contributed to a variety of successful TV shows, including Republic of Telly, The Café, The Savage Eye, The Modest Adventures of David O’Doherty, and The Liffey Laughs. As a stand-up he has performed at The Cat Laughs and the Edinburgh Fringe. He has supported Ardal O’Hanlon, Tommy Tiernan, Dara O’Briain, Ross Noble, Jason Byrne, Neil Delamere, and Des Bishop. He is soon to appear on RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars.
Support is from Steve Bennett, winner of the inaugural Irish Comedian Of The Year award. A charismatic and energetic presence, Bennett blends charming wit and musical comedy, and has enjoyed multiple tours of Australia and the Edinburgh Fringe. Chortle.co.uk has called him, "an adept entertainer with an engagingly wry sense of humour”.
Fred Cooke and Steve Bennett play the Christmas KARLnival on Tuesday December 18 at 8pm in the Róisín Dubh. The MC is Karl Spain. Tickets are €6 in advance from the Róisín; www.roisindubh.net; and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; or €8 at door.
