Two Door Cinema Club to play arts festival Big Top in 2019

Indie rock band mark first announcement for next summer's festival

TWO DOOR Cinema Club, the County Down indie-rock trio, will play the Galway International Arts Festival 2019, performing in the Big Top in the Fisheries Field on Friday July 26.

The band - Alex Trimble (vocals ), Sam Halliday (guitar ) and Kevin Baird (bass ) - formed in 2007 and recorded their debut album, Tourist History in 2010. Tracks from the album, such as ‘Something Good Can Work’, ‘Undercover Martyn’, and ‘What You Know’ caught the attention of indie fans and paved the way for the band's entry to the mainstream.

Second album Beacon, recorded with Jacknife Lee (U2, REM, Bloc Party ) in 2012, was a mature, melodic, and widescreen consolidation of their sound, with added beats and synth fuzz. It debuted at No 1 on the Irish Albums Chart and reached No 2 in Britain. In 2013 the trio played a sold out show at London’s O2 Arena, but following Alex's hospitalisation with stress-induced stomach ulcers, TDCC decided to take a break.

TDCC returned to work in 2015, and they set about challenging themselves to go beyond the traditional Two Door sound. The result was 2016's Gameshow, which revealed the influence of Prince, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Chic, Krautrock, and soul. The first single, ‘Are We Ready? (Wreck )’, which tackled Alex’s discomfort with modern life, debuted on Annie Mac's Hottest Record on BBC Radio 1. The album went top 10 in both the UK and Ireland and charted across Europe, Australia, and the USA.

The concert is a 'Galway International Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh presents...' event. Tickets go on sale on Friday November 30 at 9am, at €49.50 from www.giaf.ie and www.roisindubh.net
