KEVIN GILDEA has exerted a quiet, but powerful influence on Irish comedy, and is a key figure in the Irish comedy boom which began in the 1990s and has continued unabated since.
Gildea began his comedy career in the sketch group Mr Trellis, alongside Barry Murphy and Ardal O'Hanlon, after which they co-founded The Comedy Cellar, Dublin's longest-running comedy club.
His mild manner and quirky, absurdist, viewpoint, create side-splittingly funny ruminations that have seen him perform all over the world, and see his Edinburgh Fringe shows regularly achieve critical acclaim and sell-out runs. He has also written for Irish Pictorial Weekly, appeared on The Stand Up Show, and The Amnesty International Comedy Special.
Gildea makes a welcome return to Galway to play the Comedy KARLnival at the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday December 4 at 8pm. Also on the bill is Richy Sheehy who has won attention for his outrageous songs and stand-up comedy. He has performed live on Soccer AM, BBC Radio 1, and The Ray D'Arcy, show as well as playing to thousands at Liverpool's Anfield stadium, and selling out a headline slot at the O2 Academy in Oxford. He also recently performed in Tokyo.
