Triple win for The Galway Plaza at prestigious industry awards

The Galway Plaza came out on top in the Motorway Service Station and Best Forecourt Facilities categories at the annual Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer Awards. In what was a great night for Galway, Brian Joyce won Manager of the Year for The Galway Plaza as well. The awards recognise excellence of service and facilities at national level. The event took place at the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin.

“It’s a fantastic achievement by all our team at The Galway Plaza to win three awards,” the owner of The Plaza Group, Pat McDonagh, said. “We pride ourselves on offering one of the best services along our country’s motorways and it’s great to get the recognition from the industry’s leaders. When you have Supermac’s, Papa John’s, SuperSubs, Mac’s Deli, along with Spar, Texaco, Bewley’s, and the visitors information centre it means that there is something at The Galway Plaza for everyone,” he added. “We really have put in the effort over the last year to push boundaries and drive the business forward. We’ve had an exceptional year ourselves – the site has been exceptionally busy, we’ve risen to the challenge.”

It was a standout evening for The Plaza Group whose Mallow N20 Plaza forecourt also took the prize for Best Site with a Licence to Sell Alcohol in addition to The Galway Plaza’s treble win.

The awards, hosted by Miriam O’Callaghan, are now in their 15th year and celebrate the finest forecourt retailers from across the island.

The local forecourt industry has a significant and growing share of Ireland’s €18 billion grocery and convenience market. While recognised as one of most advanced forecourt markets in world, the sector across Ireland also plays a significant role in local communities, providing support and assistance for many local clubs and charities.

It is this variety of roles played by the sector that is recognised at these important awards.

Ireland’s Forecourt & Convenience Retailer is Ireland’s number one trade publication for the retail and forecourt industry. Its annual awards are judged by an independent panel from Spotcheck, and regarded as the annual focal point the retailing calendar in Ireland.
