LEADING INTERNATIONAL artists, such as Cyprien Gaillard and the 2008 Turner Prize-winner Mark Leckey, will be among the artists exhibiting at the 16th TULCA Festival of Visual Arts which takes place in Galway this November.
The theme of this year's festival is Syntonic State, and it will draw on Galway’s merchant and mariner histories, and examine the concept of nostalgia and the comfort we take from looking to the past - particularly during times of political and social crisis. The title comes from a psychology term meaning to be in harmony with one’s environment. The artwork for TULCA will look at that term in a time of mass migration, displacement, and anti-immigrant sentiment.
TULCA will feature new commissions, existing and never-before-seen work, performances, talks, and events. Exhibiting artists are Bassam Al-Sabah, Cyprien Gaillard, Domestic Godless, Aoibheann Greenan, Mark Garry and Sean Carpio, Helen Hughes, Jesse Jones, Mark Leckey, Colin Martin, Stella Rahola Matutes, Eleanor McCaughey, Conor McGarrigle, Dennis McNulty, Paul Murnaghan, Gavin Murphy, Ciaran Og Arnold, Laura Ni Fhlaibhin, Ciara O’Kelly, Rosie O’Reilly, Marcel Vidal, Susanne Wawra.
Exhibitions take place in the TULCA Festival Gallery, Fairgreen House; Galway Arts Centre; 126 Artist-run Gallery; NUIG Gallery; Columban Hall; Electric; and Sheridans. TULCA is curated by Linda Shevlin and runs from Friday November 2 to Sunday 18.
