Reimagining Pádraic Ó Conaire's most famous tale

An art exhibition in Kinvara inspired by M’Asal Beag Dubh

PÁDRAIC Ó CONAIRE'S short story, M’Asal Beag Dubh, about the time the writer bought a donkey from a Travelller family, is the subject of a new art exhibition, taking place where the original story was set - Kinvara.

M’Asal Beag Dubh: Contemporary Imaginings of a Classic Tale opens in Kinvara courthouse, tomorrow at 7pm. The guest speaker will be Galway county arts officer Sharon O’Grady. It will feature work by Johanna Cooke, Eleanor Duggan, Joan Finnegan, Kaye Maahs, Collette McHugh, Stephanie McLaughlin, Hilary Morley [a selectin of whose works are below], Deirdre Murphy, Hugh Murphy, Noreen O’Sullivan, and Rachel Varden.

.

Drawing on their individual life experiences and artistic practices, the artists have used the story as a means of reflecting on the past and developing a deeper understanding of the present. The project was facilitated by independent curator, Joanna McGlynn.

The exhibition is open from 11am to 5pm daily and runs until Sunday October 14. See www.kava.ie
