Grace Petrie - 'I'm a socialist, feminist, lesbian, protest singer'

Acclaimed folk singer to play Róisín Dubh this weekend

“I'M A protest singer. Actually I’m a socialist, feminist, lesbian, left wing protest singer." With these words, Grace Petrie brought the house down at her performance at the 2017 Cambridge Folk Festival.

Grace first came to attention her song 'Farewell To Welfare' which looked at disaffection in austerity Britain. In 2013 she featured in The Guardian, Diva magazine, and The Independent On Sunday’s 2013 Pink List of influential LGBT figures. Two years later she performed on the main stage of Vancouver Folk Festival, while last year saw the release of her album, Heart First Aid Kit, which MOJO selected as one of its Top 10 albums of 2017. This year, Diva nominated Grace for its 2018 Activist Award. She has played support for Billy Bragg, and appeared at Glastonbury four times at Bragg's invitation, and collaborated with Peggy Seeger.

Grace Petrie plays the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh on Saturday October 6 at 8pm. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh.
