Johnny Cash's grandson to play Monroe's

Thomas Gabriel to re-trace Cash's 1963 Irish tour

THOMAS GABRIEL, the oldest grandchild of Johnny Cash, is in Ireland this month to re-trace the steps his grandfather took exactly 55 years ago, in what is now referred to as the 'lost tour of Johnny Cash.'

As part of that re-tracing of Cash's 1963 Irish tour, Thomas will play Monroe’s on Saturday October 27 at 9pm. However, he points out this is not a 'Johnny Cash tribute' show as the man will be performing his own songs, which are reminiscent of Steve Earle and Townes van Zandt.

Predominately raised on the road, Thomas dreamed of a career as a musician. When he was young, his grandfather would call him on stage to sing 'When the Saints Go Marching In’. At 21, he was in the studio trying out his voice, where Johnny encouraged him, saying: "Son, you sound a lot like I did when I was younger; work on those vocals.”

Tickets are €15, including booking fee from www.monroes.ie
