OWEN COLGAN, a former, and possibly still, Hardy Buck, brings his one man show, Little Weapon, to this month's Vodafone Comedy Carnival. What's it about? "In a world full of hurt, pain, and sh**e craic," he says, "I’m on a journey to save people’s minds from sadness."
Buzz McDonnell was the stand-out character in RTÉ’s Hardy Bucks throughout the show's four series between 2010 and 2018. Buzz began as Eddie’s sidekick but became something of a brawling bar room philosopher dispensing his take on the world usually while dragging on a ciggie and wearing a Celtic jersey. The Hardy Bucks successfully mined the rougher side of rural Ireland for comedy gold, in the process becoming our answer to Trailer Park Boys. The subsequent Hardy Bucks movie was quickly dubbed The Irish Hangover and became the most successful Irish film of 2013.
Owen Colgan brings Little Weapon to the Róisín Dubh on Thursday October 25 at 8pm. Tickets are available from vodafonecomedycarnival.com
