Two artists exploring childhood

Brian Twomey and Diane Reid exhibiting in Kinvara

PAINTINGS AND textiles, exploring different facets of, and ideas about, childhood, make up a new exhibition at the Kinvara Courthouse by the artists Brian Twomey and Diane Reid.

Diane Reid's textile works features detailed embroidery on backgrounds of handmade woollen felt and screen-printed fabrics. Each of these small scale works features the figure of a childlike doll, with the use of repetitive hand stitching and appliqué to invoke the feel of tribal art, and the dreamlike, fragmentary qualities, of early childlike memory.

Brian Twomey uses photos of his children, and their drawings, to create homages to the magical world of children’s spontaneous and uninhibited creativity. Like Reid's works, these also explore memory, while asking questions about attitudes to children.

The exhibition, entitled Childhood, runs until September 16. Gallery opening times are 11am to 5pm daily. See www.kava.ie
