KATHERINE LEWIS, the artistic director of the Irish National Youth Ballet Company, will from September, be in Galway one Sunday a month to teach and mentor dancers, aged 13 and older.
The classes take place at the Regina Rogers School of Ballet, Presentation Primary School Hall, Newcastle Road, on September 9, October 7 and 28, and November 18. She will teach a ballet entitled Schubert Impromptu, which is choreographed by Charles Czarney. Classes are open to all students from around the country.
Katherine was the first dancer from Ireland to have been accepted into Britain's Royal Ballet School. A year later she became the first Princess Grace Scholar, making her the first Irish dancer to attend the prestigious Academie de Dance Classique in Monte-Carlo. She has worked with several companies since, and is currently INYB artistic director.
Sam Lyons, artistic director of the College of Dance, Dublin, is also coming to the Regina Rogers school to give masterclasses in contemporary dance. These classes will also be held on Sundays in the same venue.
