Seamus Kelleher - Galway guitarist's homecoming gig

Kelleher to play Monroe's next week

HE TOOK up guitar as a teenager in the Galway of the 1960s, played in a band that supported Thin Lizzy, and more recently has enjoyed a solo career that has seen him tour across the USA.

Seamus Kelleher is coming back home to Galway to play a free show in Monroe’s on Tuesday July 31 at 7pm, where he will be joined by his band.

Seamus was born in Galway in 1954 and took up guitar at 14. Within a year he was playing performing acoustic concerts at venues across the city. By 16 he joined a rock group called Spoonful and switched from acoustic to electric guitar. He quickly developed a reputation for his flamboyant blues-style guitar, often opening for bands such as Thin Lizzy. Seamus toured the US in 1974 with Rock & Roll Circus, after which he moved to New York.

He performed across the US and Europe with the Sean Fleming Band, and in 1996, became a member of the Philadelphia Celtic rock band Blackthorn, before going solo in 2010. He has played more than 160 shows across the US, with his shows mixing comedy, story-telling, virtuoso guitar playing, and original and cover material.
