COUNTRY SINGER George Strait may have sung how "all my exes live in Texas", but the four-part indie-folk harmony band who take their name from that Grammy award winning song, come from Australia.
All Our Exes Live In Texas, will bring their harmony vocals; mandolins, ukuleles, accordions, and guitars; not to mention their rambunctious quippery and feminist politics, to the Róisín Dubh on Friday July 27 at 8pm, as part of the Galway International Arts Festival.
The band, a summit of leading Australian singer-songwriters - Elana Stone, Katie Wighton, Hannah Crofts, Georgia Mooney - originally joined forces for an O Brother Where Art Thou? tribute show in 2013. Since then they have toured the globe, headlining their own shows, and supporting Backstreet Boys, Passenger, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, and Midnight Oil. They have also recorded with Kesha on her single 'Praying'.
Last year the quartet won the Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards for Best Blues and Roots Album for their critically acclaimed debut, When We Fall; and the Folk Act of the Year awards at both the National Live Music Awards and AU Review Awards. Songs from the album were also nominated for the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition - which is named after AC/DC's production team.
The Exes have also enjoyed critical acclaim, Xpress Magazine (Perth ) saying they "blew us away with their impeccable four-part harmonies"; The Brag said their "harmonies are so good it's actually a little ridiculous"; while Hhhhappy.com called them “the most badass girl folk group ever".
