Aindrias de Staic's The Man From Moogaga on Newstalk

Repeat broadcast for Galway artist's Celtic Media Award winning show

FOLLOWING IT'S surprise win at the Celtic Media Award, there will be another chance to hear Aindrias de Staic's The Man From Moogaga, with a repeat broadcast on Saturday June 23 at 9pm.

The Man From Moogaga, which was originally a stage show, was adapted for radio and broadcast by Newstalk earlier this year. Against stiff competition, the it won Best Radio Comedy at the Celtic Media Awards, held in Wales in May.

The show is about a musician who yearns to be on the parish football team, but who is rejected, and goes travelling. Upon his return the team have reached the club final, and a man short, they call on him to help them win the cup. Aindrias performs the story using a fiddle, a loop pedal, and his talents as an actor, musician, and comedian.

The judges of the Celtic Media Awards praised the show, saying its "storytelling, the poetry, music, timing, and production of this programme was not only unique but exemplary. It stood out on so many levels. It has side-splitting humour, but also a sharp insight into community cohesion and the effects of emigration".

The 48 minute show was produced by Francesca Lawlor and Clodagh Murray. Meanwhile, de Staic has confirmed he will revisit the show with a national tour this winter.
