THROUGH A combination of good genes, horse placenta, and an incredible ability for self delusion, Steve Cummins is an author, radio host, and stand up-comedian. It's in the latter guise Galway will see him in next week.
Steve Cummins, who plays the Comedy KARLnival at the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday June 26 at 8.30pm, worked with juvenile offenders in Ireland and Britain, as well as with adolescent gang members in the USA, before turning to comedy. He is now the resident host of The Laughter Lounge in Dublin.
He has performed on the BBC, RTÉ, TG4, and Channel 4, and wrote the 'Dad's Diary' column in the Mothers & Babies magazine in the Irish Independent for more than a year. He is also the author of Where do Daddies Come From? - A Pregnancy Guide for Men published by Glasnevin Publishing. He is working on a follow-up dealing with the trials and tribulations of being a dad, entitled Why Do Daddies Cry?
Also on the bill is Richy Sheehy, whose comedy mixes outrageous songs with stand-up. He had two full runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016 and 2017 and was part of the 'Best Of Irish' show at the 2015 Festival. He also shared the stage with the late, legendary, Howard Marks, who said Sheehy has "an energy that will last forever”.
