Mark Geary - a 'quintessential singer-songwriter'

Dubliner to play Monroe's next week

HAVING SPENT the last 20 years between his native Ireland and New York, where he cut his teeth at the renowned Sin-É cafe, Mark Geary has won respect and attention from audiences and fellow artists.

No stranger to Galway either, Mark makes a welcome return west to play Monroe's on Saturday July 21 at 8pm, to play songs from his most recent album, The Fool, released last October, as well as from his previous works.

Often hailed as a "quintessential singer-songwriter", the Dubliner began his career in the early 1990s, eventually moving to New York in 1992, cutting his teeth in the East village and the legendary Sin-E Café, where he grew a steady following and featured on bills with Jeff Buckley, Joe Strummer, and Elvis Costello. Since then he has released the albums 33 1/3 Grand Street (2003 ), Ghosts (2004 ), Opium (2008 ), and Songs About Love, Songs About Leaving (2011 ).

Tickets are €10 from www.monroes.ie or €12 on the door. The ticket includes admission to Seo Linn afterwards
