FOLLOWING THE emphatic victory of the Yes side in last weekend's referendum to repeal the Eighth Amendment, a new exhibition will explore female corporeality, autonomy, strength, and vulnerability.
But Still, Like Dust, I'll Rise, an exhibition of work by Alexis Adler, Dara Birnbaum, Vivienne Dick, Olivia Eberstadt, Dragana Jurisic, Breda Lynch, Eileen MacDonagh, Alice Maher [whose work Hind is depicted below], Margaret Maiorana, Selma Makela, Isabel Nolan, Kathy Prendergast, and Suzanne Walsh. Curated by Vivienne Dick, the exhibition opens in the Galway Arts Centre on Friday June 1 at 6pm. The woks on display will examine mythology, Wonder Woman, gender-queer images, gothic fables, dislocation, violence, and a "speculative post-human future".

Speaking ahead of the exhibition, the artists said: "We as women artists assert our rights as citizens of the world, our rights over our own bodies, our equal rights within the law, our right to speak, to legislate, to create, to write our own history, to have shelter and to live in a world free from war and violence...Our survival depends on our respect for this Earth and for women, who carry out the work of producing and sustaining life."
But Still, Like Dust, I'll Rise runs until Friday July 6. On Thursday July 5 from 7pm to 9pm there will be performance, music, and a film screenings with Lisamarie Johnson, Isabella Oberlander, Áine Phillips, Vicky Smith, and others. See www.galwayartscentre.ie
