In association with Advertiser Classifieds

As the summer fast approaches, temperatures start to rise and the likelihood of sun being forecast increases; slightly.

For the experienced gardener, plants and flowers start to bloom. But he/she will know which flowers bloom better in the summer leaving that picture perfect garden. Here at the advertiser.ie, we provide you with the top three flowers to plant in summer.

1 The Sunflower

Its name is a dead give away; the sunflower loves sun. Not only does it look pretty, it is easy to plant and maintain. Simply sow the seeds in a sunny spot in the ground and watch that sunflower grow and grow. Some sunflowers can reach heights of up to 14 feet so to make sure the plant does not collapse, provide the stems with supports.

2 Marigold

Marigolds can brighten up any garden and are perfect for beginners. The seeds are easy to handle and grow quickly so you will not have to wait for a beautiful, coloured garden. And the marigold family has a big range which means you can have tall varieties for borders and fences and small types for beds and containers.

3 Pansy

Pansies are considered happy plants because they have "cheery" faces. These plants are very simple to grow from seed in fertile, moist, soil in full sun or in shade with bright spots.

So there you have it. Three easy to grow plants this summer. What are you waiting for?
