Dáithí Ó Sé and Cllr Joe Byrne open specialist memory care centre in Kilcolgan Nursing Home

Galway’s only dedicated memory care home, with a highly trained team specialising in dementia and Alzheimer care, has opened in Kilcolgan.

Cllr Joe Byrne and Dáithí Ó Sé recently opened the specialist memory care centre in Kilcolgan Nursing Home, Co Galway. This facility offers specialised person-centred care for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, providing peace of mind for families in knowing that a loved one is receiving expert care, attention, stimulation, and support in a secure and compassionate community.

Kilcolgan Memory Care Centre is managed by Mowlam Healthcare which currently operates 30 nursing homes around the country including specialist memory care centres in New Ross, Co Wexford, and Adare, Co Limerick. Memory care is the company's model of person-centred specialist care for people, and is designed to ease the symptoms of dementia for an enhanced quality of life, and empower individuals through the appropriate therapy. This will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of care for the residents of Kilcolgan Nursing Home.

Kilcolgan Memory Care Centre has been designed with dementia-friendly décor and all the comforts of home for those living with dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other forms of memory loss. The memory care programme is built around a deep understanding of residents, their individual needs and wishes, and all aspects of their lives.

TV personality Dáithí Ó Sé, ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, said: “I am so impressed with this facility it is an extension of what people have at home and in their community. It allows us to fit into people's lives and meet their needs.”
