Doughiska girls welcome new ambassadors for Irish Girl Guides

Members of Irish Girl Guides from Doughiska travelled to Dublin to welcome award-winning entrepreneurs Kate and Annie Madden as the organisation’s new ambassadors.

The girls, who are members of Merlin Woods Ladybirds (aged five to seven ), Brownies (aged seven to 10 ), Guides (aged 10 to 14 ), and senior branch (14 to 30 ), were selected to meet the new ambassadors and to take part in a photo shoot.

The girls were chosen out of the organisation’s 12,000 members because they were the top sellers during Irish Girl Guides’ Cookie Month last November when they sold a total of 1,600 packets of cookies as part of a national fundraiser.

The girls were thrilled to meet Kate (17 ) and Annie (16 ) from Co Meath who were prize winners at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition in 2015 and who now head up a thriving equine health business. The sisters took on the mantle of honorary ambassadors at IGG’s National Council meeting held in Tallaght last Saturday and will blaze a trail for the organisation over the next 12 months.

The Doughiska girls enjoyed meeting Kate and Annie and picking up business tips from them.

They told Kate and Annie about the different badges they can earn as members of IGG, including entrepreneur, science investigator, green fingers, global travellers, sportswoman, techno, and online surfer.

The sisters were presented with a trailblazer award by IGG president Maureen Murphy at the council meeting. “We are delighted that Kate and Annie Madden are our ambassadors and congratulate them on their many achievements,” said Murphy. “They are inspirational peers for all our members. They are the good news story for young people today.

“In Guiding we support the girls and young women, as individuals, to reach their own full potential in a safe, fun, environment that offers many different choices and opportunities. So having Kate and Annie here shows how dreams can come true and how everything is possible.”
