Louisburgh Ironman to feature on special TG4 programme

Louisburgh Ironman Eamonn Keane is the subject of a special insightful documentary called Éamonn Ó Cathain – An Fear Iarainn on TG4 this coming week. The programme, which will be broadcast in the Cogar series next Sunday evening at 9.30pm, follows the Mayo native as he attempts to bring home the Grand Slam of ‘Weight Lifting Guinness World Records’ to his native parish.

Mary and Timmy are Mayo AC league leaders

As runners prepare to head to the Balla 10k this coming Saturday evening for what will be the fourth race in the 2011 Mayo AC C & C Cellular league details of the top 25 league positions after three races held have just been published. Timmy Glavey (Mayo AC) leads the mens’ league after three quality runs with 64 points closely followed by club mate Robert Malseed on 62pts having also run three races. While well positioned in joint third on 49pts having run two races each are Roger Barrett (Ballina AC) and Matt Bidwell (Galway City Harriers).

Westport 5k fun run and walk this weekend

This Sunday, August 22, Westport will host a 5k fun run and walk around the historic tourist town. The event is open to absolutely everyone of all abilities and will take place through the grounds of Westport House. The event starts at 4.30pm sharp at the North Mall, with registration taking place from 3.30pm in the same location. The course has been accurately measured, and is the ideal distance for families, walkers, Fit4Life members, and club runners. As part of the Westport Get Out There Adventure Festival, the Westport community, and Mayo Sports Partnership have come together to promote an Active Westport for all. Kilkenny athletes take centre stage at Santry

With the Olympic Games just a few weeks away there was an air of anticipation around Santry Stadium at the weekend. The event was Woodies DIY senior track and field championships held over the two days, Saturday and Sunday. Photographers and reporters were intent on recording the final achievements of some of our Beijing-bound stars.
