Mary and Timmy are Mayo AC league leaders

As runners prepare to head to the Balla 10k this coming Saturday evening for what will be the fourth race in the 2011 Mayo AC C & C Cellular league details of the top 25 league positions after three races held have just been published. Timmy Glavey (Mayo AC ) leads the mens’ league after three quality runs with 64 points closely followed by club mate Robert Malseed on 62pts having also run three races. While well positioned in joint third on 49pts having run two races each are Roger Barrett (Ballina AC ) and Matt Bidwell (Galway City Harriers ).

Mary Gleeson leads the Women’s league with 74 point followed by Colette Tuohy on 69pts while Angela O’Connor in third position on 64 pts .All three Mayo AC women have ran all league races to date.

This year a competitor’s best score from a maximum of six of the eight race series will be used to calculate their final score so there is still lots of running to be done before the Ballyhaunis 8k on Saturday September 24 the finale of the 2011 league.

Salmon Run brings big crowds to Ballina

The Powerade Salmon Run played host to over 200 tri-athletes in perfect weather conditions in Ballina County Mayo. John Reidy was the first swimmer to exit the water in 6mins 40sec however his lead was short lived once the bike leg got underway. David Brennan’ was the first athlete back into T2 with a 30.43 bike closely by Eamonn McAndrew and Tom O'Dowd. Sinead Roche was the first lady back to T2 however Andree Walkin was seconds behind her and showed no fatigue from her performance the Europeans.

It was all to play for on the run with seconds between the top two males and females. Eamon McAndrew ran hard however David Brennan stayed strong and crossed the finish line first, with Eamonn McAndrew second and Tom O'Dowd third. Meanwhile, Andree Walkin took the lead from Sinead Roche in the run and claimed the Ladies first prize. Sinead maintained second place and Deborah Meghen took third.
