Louisburgh Ironman to feature on special TG4 programme

Louisburgh Ironman Eamonn Keane is the subject of a special insightful documentary called Éamonn Ó Cathain – An Fear Iarainn on TG4 this coming week. The programme, which will be broadcast in the Cogar series next Sunday evening at 9.30pm, follows the Mayo native as he attempts to bring home the Grand Slam of ‘Weight Lifting Guinness World Records’ to his native parish.

The Maigh Eo Media film crew follow the primary school teacher from start to finish as he aims to achieve more world records in the strength section of the Guinness Book of World Records than any other person on the planet.

“This is a very emotive and poignant documentary as Eamonn goes in search of his ultimate goal in weight lifting,” commented the programme producer Piaras Ó Raghallaigh. “Eamonn is a very driven and determined sportsperson and this programme shines a light on his intriguing life,” he said.

Eamonn has been power-lifting for a number of years and has won numerous Ironman Power Championships around the world. He has also competed and won the Superhuman Strength Challenge known as ‘The Big 5’, for bench press, barbell squat, deadlift, military press and dumb-bell flyes. He is also the first athlete in the world to hold 12 titles in the Grand Slam of Superhuman Strength.

“Eamonn is no stranger to being included in the Guinness Book of World Records but the Grand Slam of 12 World Records has never being achieved by anyone before and this programme has a gripping and fascinating tale to tell,” commented O’Raghallaigh.

Aside from the weightlifting the programme also looks at Eamonn’s involvement in his native parish, his love of the GAA and his passion for training and fitness. There are also poignant moments when Eamonn talks about personal loss after one of his best friends died in a tragic house fire and how he copes with his difficult training regime alone in his own gym in Louisburgh.

Éamonn Ó Catháin – An Fear Iarainn will be broadcast on TG4 on Sunday November 6 at 9.30pm and repeated on Wednesday November 9 at 11.30pm.
