Galway Musical Society celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in swinging style next week with a staging of the sublime Cole Porter musical, Anything Goes, at the Town Hall.

ON THE mean streets of New York’s Upper West Side, where rival gangs jostle for territory, and will fight dirty for it, where newly arrived immigrants compete among themselves - and against other ethnicities - to survive in a society hostile to them, two young people fall in love.

Trading Faces has been running performance courses in Galway since 1993. The school gives young people (five to 18 years) the opportunity to explore performance skills for stage. Workshops are run in acting, singing, and dancing, and are both lively and enjoyable.

Eamonn Corbett came from Kileeneenbeg near Clarinbridge. He was associated with the Volunteer movement in County Galway from 1914 onwards. After the Redmondite split he gave valuable assistance in organising the Volunteers throughout the county, and in 1915 he was assisting Liam Mellows while training the various companies in the Brigade area.

“The minutes seem like hours,” Mayor Hildegarde Naughton once sang in a performance of the Leonard Bernstein musical West Side Story.

Athlone Musical Society is delighted to announce the return of West Side Story, as their upcoming production, which will run for eight nights from Saturday March 5 to Saturday March 12 in the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone.

It’s audition time once again for Athlone Musical Society, with the society hosting its auditions tonight, Friday October 29 from 7.30pm onwards, and Saturday morning October 30 from 10am until 1pm at the Dean Crowe Theatre.
