West Side Story almost ready for the Dean Crowe

Rehearsal’s are in full swing for Athlone Musical Society’s West Side Story.

This year boasts a fabulously talented front line. Leading lady is local girl Fiona McManus from Coosan. Fiona plays the wonderful role of Maria. This is Fiona’s third production with the society, her first role was Annie Reilly in 42nd Street in 2002 and the beautiful Johanna in Sweeney Todd in 2008. Fiona has also played Maria for Ballinasloe Musical Society in 2004, Fantine in Les Miserables, and Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Fiona is currently a secondary school music and singing teacher in Dublin.

A newcomer to the front line is Mark Adamson, who takes on the role of Tony. Mark hails from Belfast, and has been involved in musical theatre, theatre, television, concerts, and musical competitions from a young age his television work includes Children in Need BBC Northern Ireland, UTV’s Kelly Show, RTÉ’s You’re a Star finalist 2003, winner of Northern Ireland Pop Idol 2004 under Louis Walsh, and All Ireland Talent Show finalist 2010.

Another newcomer to the front line is Carlos Fidalgo Romo, a native of Spain, who arrived in Athlone last year to work as an architect. Carlos decided to audition for West Side Story to make new friends and settle into Athlone life. He’s also a member of ANAM St Mary’s Folk Group.

Jared Madden has also throdden the boards of the Dean Crowe Theatre with the Dean Crowe Theatre pantomine for the last two years, playing the prince on both occasions. Jared is a speech and drama teacher in Co Offaly and directs both musical and drama productions in primary and secondary schools.

The production runs from Saturday March 5 to Saturday March 12, inclusive. Show starts nightly at 8pm with the exception of the Sunday matinee which will commence at 5pm.
