Monroe’s Live will celebrate the best of Irish rock this weekend with two nights dedicated to the creativity, talent and spirit that defined a generation of music.

When Ireland Rocked, a night dedicated to the golden era of Irish rock music, takes place at Monroe's Live on Friday, January 10, kicking off their Irish tour 2025.

The main feature is the Warwick Hotel, the white building in the foreground. To the left of it you can see the Summerset Hotel and the little shop, An Bearna, run by James and Maura Codd. Behind the Warwick you can see Lenaboy Park and towards the top of the photograph, the newly built houses of Devon Park.

TWO YOUNG bands, one Irish - Modernlove, one American - Love Ghost, are touring Ireland throughout December and January with the first show taking place in the Róísín Dubh next week.

THE SPIEGELTENT returns to Eyre Square to house another week of raucous, riotous, comedy, but this year it will not just be comedy that takes place within - some of the very best of Irish music from Declan O'Rourke to The Undertones will be heard also.

This month marks the 35th anniversary of one the boldest and most imaginative private ventures to be undertaken in Mayo. The year was 1981 and the plan was to transform a 65 acre site outside Castlebar into the biggest two-day rock festival ever staged in the province. The proposal was the brainchild of brothers Tommy and John Staunton and local hotelier Tony McHugh. The substantial sum of £120,000 was invested in the festival with half going toward enticing major acts to play over the August bank holiday weekend.
