Series ready for the off this Tuesday
Places are filling up fast for the third annual Mayo AC 5k Summer Series Run and Walk which starts next Tuesday evening, June 19 in Lough Lannagh in Castlebar at 8pm. This popular annual event which is open to all who wish to run jog or walk is limited to 300 approx. You can enter online at www.runireland.com, but it will close at noon this Saturday June 17.
Balla 10K pushes road safety this year
It’s that time of year again plans are well in place for the 19th Annual Balla 10k which takes place this year on Saturday evening July 23 at 7pm. Over the years the Balla event has established itself as one of the “big ones” on the West of Ireland circuit and for the past number of months Race Director Brendan Conwell and his team have been busy to ensure that this years event will be the best to date.
Mayo AC ladies team to represent Ireland in Europe
It has just been announced that the Mayo AC Ladies team has been nominated by AAI to represent Ireland in the European Women’s Road Race Inter Clubs Championship in Torre Vedras, Portugal, on Sunday October 17 next. Mayo AC have established themselves as one of the leading ladies’ club teams nationally in recent years, with many successes including winning team gold at the 2009 National Half Marathon at both senior and masters’ level. This will be the third time that Mayo AC will be taking part in this major event, having travelled to Italy in 2002 and to Moscow in 2003.
Dates for new 5k series released
Mayo AC and Swinford AC have joined forces to host the first ever ‘Fit4life’ 5km Summer Series over three Wednesdays in June and July. The series, which is also supported by the Mayo Sports Partnership, will kick off next Wednesday, June 30 in Castlebar. From there it will move on to Swinford on July 7 and finish up in Claremorris on July 14. Proceedings will get under way each evening at 8pm sharp and Country Harvest Fruit and Veg Store in Claremorris is sponsoring the event.
Oughterard road race revived
Ougterard’s most famous athlete, Mick Molloy, will have his name honoured in a revived race to take place in the lakeshore village.
