Mayo AC ladies team to represent Ireland in Europe

It has just been announced that the Mayo AC Ladies team has been nominated by AAI to represent Ireland in the European Women’s Road Race Inter Clubs Championship in Torre Vedras, Portugal, on Sunday October 17 next. Mayo AC have established themselves as one of the leading ladies’ club teams nationally in recent years, with many successes including winning team gold at the 2009 National Half Marathon at both senior and masters’ level. This will be the third time that Mayo AC will be taking part in this major event, having travelled to Italy in 2002 and to Moscow in 2003.

While the Mayo AC team to take part will not be finalised until mid-September after the National Half Marathon and a number of other races, it is expected that it will be led by Catherine Conway and Mary Gleeson, both of whom have been outstanding on the road racing circuit in recent years.

Mayo AC are also organising at trip to Portugal for club members who wish to support the ladies on their big day. More information on this can be had from PJ on 0851742816.

Ballyhaunis 8k

The third Ballyhaunis 8k run and walk takes place this Saturday, August 28, starting at 5pm .This popular event, which has an AAI permit, is open to all who want to run, jog or walk .While it is expected that the event will attract many of the leading runners from around the west, it is also hoped that many locals will join in the fun and take part. Race headquarters will once again be the excellent facilities of Ballyhaunis Rugby Club on Doctors Road. Local business Finn Footwear is the main sponsor of the event, which is also race five in the 2010 Mayo AC/ C and C Cellular League, while Ballyhaunis native Frank Greally, editor of Irish Runner magazine is also supporting the event.

Mayo AC prepare for AAI National Half Marathon

The AAI National Half Marathon takes place on Sunday September 5 in Crettyard, Co Carlow starting at 1pm. Once again Mayo AC plan to have strong teams competing in the various categories Due to a rule change earlier this year both master men and women age categories now start at over 40, which means that in this year’s race the team categories for both men and women are senior, over 40 and over 50.

Murray and son finish first in Killasser

Anne Murray finished in first place in a time of 21:14 in the women’s section of second leg of the Swinford Harvest Series, the Killasser 5k, on Wednesday last. Her son Daniel took the honours in the men’s race in 16:35, followed closely by Andrew Lynskey of Mayo AC. The second and third placed women were Orla McCanna, Swinford AC, and Jennifer Kolling.
