Christmas cheer at Kilbeggan Library as colouring competition winners celebrate
A special presentation ceremony was held for the prizewinners in the Kilbeggan Library Christmas Colouring Competition ahead of Christmas week. The competition was organised by local library staff Margaret Egan and Ray Hussey and the prizes were presented by Gearoid O’Brien, senior executive librarian, Westmeath County Library Service representing the county librarian.

IN 1974, Galway County Libraries set up a service for the blind and visually impaired to allow them enjoy the benefits of the library. It was modelled on one already provided by the National Council for the Blind and Galway remains the only public library in Ireland to provide it. It is totally free of charge.

Poetry Tree on tour of Mayo
The Poetry Tree has been doing a tour of some of Mayo’s bigger libraries. The tree has just left Ballina Library and the poetry tree is currently in Ballinrobe Library. So far the tree has visited Castlebar Library, it made a special appearance in the foyer of the Clew Bay Hotel during the Rolling Sun Literary Festival in Westport, and then moved to Westport Library.

Mayo County Council Arts Office, Library Service, and Artsquad will celebrate All Ireland Poetry Day which takes place on Thursday October 4. Mayo Artsquad members are using their creative abilities to design a poetry tree. They are also putting a call out for submissions of inspiring poetry to dress the tree.
