Poetry Tree on tour of Mayo

The Poetry Tree has been doing a tour of some of Mayo’s bigger libraries. The tree has just left Ballina Library and the poetry tree is currently in Ballinrobe Library. So far the tree has visited Castlebar Library, it made a special appearance in the foyer of the Clew Bay Hotel during the Rolling Sun Literary Festival in Westport, and then moved to Westport Library.

The Poetry Tree came about when Mayo County Council’s Arts office, Library Service, and Mayo Artsquad put out a call for inspiring poetry submissions to celebrate All Ireland Poetry Day. The poetry tree was designed by Mayo Artsquad artist Louisa Sloan. There was a great response to the call for poetry with more than 160 submissions received. Poetry was received from primary and secondary school students, active retirement associations, care settings, and writers groups, to name but a few. Why not go to see the poetry tree in Ballinrobe Library.
