Oregon Grape Root (aka Mountain Grape ), is not actually a grape. It is one of several plants high in ‘berberine’, which is responsible for it’s anti-microbial action.
Oregon Grape is effective against a broad range of bacteria, protozoa and fungi. Berberine has shown efficacy against candida, chlamydia, E. coli, salmonella typhi, diplococcus pneumoniae, bladder infections, bacterial vaginosis and many more. Berberine’s action in inhibiting Candida, as well as pathogenic bacteria, prevents the spreading of a yeast that’s a common side effect of antibiotic use.
Berberine has been shown to stimulate the production of bile and bilirubin therefore greatly supporting the liver, while increasing the blood supply to the spleen optimally filtering the blood, and activating macrophages in the cells that engulf and destroy bacteria, viruses and other undesirable matter.
Oregon Grape root is not only antibiotic, but also anti-viral, anti-parisitic, and anti-fungal and has also been used with success in treating psoriasis and for this purpose it may be taken both internally and rubbed onto the skin as a balm.
Oregon Grape root is available in capsules and also in a balm from Viridian nutrition and is reasonably priced.
