Culture Night/Oíche Chultúir organisers have launched an ‘Open Call’, inviting Midlands region organisations and individuals from interested in participating to log onto culturenight.ie/get-involved/ and share their ‘Expressions of Interest’ with their Local Authority Arts Office.

Culture Night is the annual all-island celebration of culture in Ireland and returns this year on Friday, September 20.

Boy Amongst Sparrows – celebrating poet John Ennis in his 80th year

A special event will be hosted in Athlone Library on May 8 at 3pm as part of the All-Ireland Drama Festival Fringe to mark the 80th year of poet John Ennis.

Ennis was born in Westmeath in 1944 and has published twenty one books of poetry. The critic Sean Dunne has said of John, “he leaves many other poets looking watery and confined to limited forms, like people who never stir out of the house.”
