On Sunday afternoon last, Athlone Castle and Visitor Centre celebrated Bloomsday with an exciting literary and musical recital in the castle courtyard. Bloomsday celebrates June 16, 1904, the day which follows the life of central character Leopold Bloom in James Joyce’s novel ‘Ulysses’.
They celebrated Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ and walked with Leopold and Mollie Bloom on that very day, June 16, 1904, through theatre, song, readings and writings. Attendees wore their best straw boaters, pinstripes, ruffles, petticoats, parasols and round-rimmed spectacles!
