Manulla crashed to a 6-3 defeat at the hands of Claremorris last Sunday afternoon in Carramore, with Dean Roddy chipping in with five goals along with an effort from Simon Butler. It was plain sailing for the south Mayo men at the short whistle with a 4-1 cushion to rest on, with the sole Manulla response coming from Gerry Canavan. Canavan and Matthew Nolan added second half goals for Tom Healy’s troops, but Claremorris were already half-way home.
Meanwhile Westport Utd defeated Ballyglass 3-0, with David Hoban breaking the deadlock in the 58th minute. Two minutes later Danny Scahill doubled their advantage with Joe Lawless sealing the deal in the 85th minute. Hoban bagged the winner for the Connacht/Munster selection on Saturday in the UEFA Regions Cup test game, and as result they will represent Ireland at the next Regions Cup. Castlebar Celtic were pushed all the way by near neighbours Ballyheane, as they carved out a 2-1 win with the goals coming from Colm Nevin and Gerry Hunt.

Westport hit Claremorris for seven
Fri, May 13, 2016
It was raining goals in the Elverys Sports Super league this weekend as Westport Utd dished out a comprehensive 7-0 defeat to Claremorris on Sunday afternoon in Concannon Park. The star of the show was most definitely Mark McNally who bagged five goals in a stunning display. Phil Keegan and Peter Corcoran also chipped in for the Covies, as they put the south Mayo men to the sword. Elsewhere, Castlebar Celtic romped home to a comfortable 5-0 win away to Conn Rangers. Conor Griffin grabbed a hat-trick, along with goals from Anthony Johnston and a Colm Nevin free-kick.
Manulla continued their rich vein of form of late with a hard-fought 2-0 win against Glenhest Rovers in Carramore. Considering that they went down to 10 men after Gerry Canavan received his marching orders, made it all the more remarkable. Anthony Elding opened Manulla’s account, with Dylan Roache making the three points safe. On Saturday night Ballina Town recorded a 2-0 win over Ballyglass thanks to a brace from man of the match Dylan McKee.

Claremorris bounced back from their crushing defeat at the hands of Ballyglass last weekend, with a stunning 6-4 win over Iorras Aontaithe. Goals certainly will not be a problem for the south Mayo men this season, as they produced a sparkling display on Sunday afternoon with last season’s Premier A top goalscorer Dean Roddy opening his Super League account with four goals. Hubert Kowalski and Simon Butler also fired home for Mark Peters' troops, in a game where they led 4-1 at the short whistle. In another game with a bagful of goals on Sunday, Ballina Town recorded a comprehensive 9-0 win over north Mayo neighbours Conn Rangers. It was the ultimate performance by Ballina with Keith Duffy grabbing four goals in a man of the match display. Brendan Lavelle chipped in with two along with efforts from Aidan O’Hora, Conor Quinn and former Castlebar Celtic frontman Paul Fitzpatrick.
Elsewhere, both Ballyglass and Ballyheane gained a share of the spoils in a tightly fought affair on Sunday afternoon as it finished 1-1 at Michael Keaveney Park. It was deadlocked at the break with Robbie Fadden nudging Ballyheane ahead, only for a Chris Maughan own goal to get Ballyglass back on level terms. Castlebar Celtic dished out a 4-0 defeat to Glenhest Rovers who are finding the going tough of late. Jordan Loftus bagged a brace, with Colm Nevin and an unfortunate own goal handing Ciaran Kelly his first league win. Manulla and Westport Utd remained deadlocked on Saturday night in a real humdinger at the Sports Park. An Anthony Elding penalty pushed Tom Healy’s troops clear early on only for Joe Lawless to claw Westport Utd back on level terms.
