Four of the best in the Super League

Soccer: Mayo League Preview

Ballyhane v Glenhest Rovers

Saturday May 21 at 7pm

In Quigley Park

The home-side were involved in the game of the round last weekend, where they came from 2-0 down against the champions to lead 3-2 with time almost up, only for Westport United to peg them back to 3-3 two minutes into injury time. They showed great fortitude to hit Westport United for three goals in 37 minutes through Peter Burke, Pádraig Mulroe, and Damien Walsh, but will be disappointed they could not hold on for the win. On Saturday they will welcome a Glenhest Rovers side who picked up their second point of the season last weekend when they held Claremorris to a 0-0 draw and the hosts will be expected to take the points on Saturday.

Verdict: Ballyheane

Conn Rangers v Manulla

Saturday May 21 at 7pm

In Mount Falcon

Conn Rangers are currently rooted to the bottom of the table with just one point to show from their five games to date, however they made life tough for Ballyglass last weekend, taking the lead from a Tom Gillespie penalty before two second half goals from the Candystripes sealed the win for Tom Connolly's men. Manulla, despite taking the lead against local rivals Castlebar Celtic on Saturday night in Celtic Park, fell to a 2-1 loss to the Hoops which consigned them to their second loss of the season. Anthony Elding put them in front with a 17th minute penalty, but they were pegged back almost straight away before Celtic struck the winner from the spot themselves midway through the second half. The visitors on Saturday night will be eyeing this one up as a must win game against one of the league's early days strugglers.

Verdict: Manulla

Ballyglass v Iorras Aontaithe

Sunday May 22 at 2.30pm

In Keaveney Park

There are six points and four places between these sides in the table after five rounds of action in the Super League, and going on form it looks like that gap will be stretched out to nine points by Sunday evening. Ballyglass came from one behind at the break against Conn Rangers to pick up their third win of the season thanks to goals from Danny Broderick and Kevin Keane last weekend. Their visitors on Sunday were on the end of a 6-1 hammering at home to a rampant Ballina Town which consigned them to a third defeat in five, and saw them concede six for the second time this season after Claremorris also put the half a dozen past them. But the north Mayo men are a resourceful bunch and they will be chomping at the bit to put things right this weekend, but it will be a difficult task.

Verdict: Ballyglass

Claremorris v Castlebar Celtic

Sunday May 22 at 2.30pm

In Concannon Park

The home-side notched up another valuable point last time out when they drew 0-0 with Glenhest Rovers on the road, but they will do very well to come out of Sunday's game with a similar return as they look to re-establish themselves in the top flight this season. Celtic come into the game on the back of three league wins on the bounce, the most recent a hard fought 2-1 win over local rivals Manulla where they came from a goal down to win by the odd goal in three thanks to strikes from Jordan Loftus and Ryan McManus in Celtic Park. Manager Ciaran Kelly has gone back in between the sticks recently and he will be managing things from his own 18 yard line in Concannon Park if he chooses to do so again on Sunday.

Verdict: Celtic
