Mayo Retailer, Gerry Casey and his team in Casey’s Londis Castlebar, Ballina, Galway, Limerick and Kildare, raised an incredible €10,000 for Londis’ official charity partner - LauraLynn Ireland’s Children’s Hospice - during the February 280,000 Step Challenge.

Burke welcomes commitment to housing density reduction

Fine Gael Mayo based Senator Paddy Burke has said that he has been told by the Minister of State for Planning and Local Government, that he has issued a circular to local authorities and An Bord Pleanala, that will allow councils to grant planning permission for housing developments that are of lower density than that currently required in rural towns.

Keeping an ear and an eye out for the Curlew in Cong

To mark World Curlew Day which fell on Wednesday of this week (April 21), the National Parks and Wildlife Service, which runs the Curlew Conservation Project, presented the local Curlew Action Group in Cong with a specially commissioned Curlew sculpture. The work by artist Richard Farren, was unveiled earlier this week by the group, alongside Cong Tidy Towns, in the historical grounds of Cong Abbey.

Artworks by Mayo artists will be added to the National Collection

Minister Catherine Martin has announced that 422 artworks by 70 artists will be added to the National Collection thanks to the €1m fund provided to the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and the Crawford Art Gallery in October 2020.
