Double yellow lines outside private houses causing concern to residents

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny TD has been contacted by a number of homeowners in the Castlebar area who have had double yellow lines painted on the road outside their houses within the past few months. It has become an inconvenience to some homeowners, in one particular case; an elderly person has had to pay two parking fines because the person who mows her lawn has to park outside her house.

New BSE testing measures good news for Mayo farmers – Carty

Government Spokesperson on Agriculture in Seanad Éireann and Fianna Fáil Senator John Carty has welcomed the news that the EU Commissioner for Public Health has proposed an increase to 48 months in the minimum age for BSE testing of animals slaughtered for human consumption as well as emergency slaughtered and fallen animals.

Higgins welcomes new community media report

Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins has welcomed a report from the European Parliament's Culture Committee on the importance of a strong community media presence in the EU. The report, which will be adopted tomorrow, highlights the need for further support from national governments and also encourages the European institutions to do more to consider the needs of community media outlets when drawing up communication strategies in the future.

O’Mahony and Cribbin want investment in Ballyhaunis

The announcement that 80 refugees from Congo will be settling in Ireland next year has moved Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony and his party colleague Cllr John Cribbin to call for the Government to fulfil its promises to develop the infrastructure of Ballyhaunis to enable the town to deal with the hundreds of asylum seekers currently living in the town.
