Tour de Force is a group of approximately 50 members of An Garda Síochána based in Dublin, and their friends and family, who take part in an annual sponsored cycle in aid of various local, national, and international charities. This year, the gardaí and their friends will cycle between Dublin and Westport and all the funds raised will go to the Mayo branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Association. In particular, the money raised this year will go towards the development of the special CF Unit at Mayo General Hospital.

Ballina Family Resource Centre and Mayo Sports Partnership are running a “Go for Life” programme aimed at the over 55s. This programme costs €5 and will be on in Ballina Family Resource Centre on Monday June 13 at 11am for one hour. The class will consist of going for a walk on the old French Road from Killala (meeting at the Ballina FRC). For more information ring Pat O’Brien 087 254 0334 / 096 72300. This group still meets on Wednesdays.

The WhistleBlast Quartet will be visiting Westport to facilitate an exciting and creative three-day concert/workshop programme with the children of Scoil Phadraig National School on June 13, 14 and 15. As always this three-day visit will end with a wonderful free family concert for all the community and all ages in Holy Trinity Church, Westport, on Wednesday June 15 at 6pm.

If the answer is yes, Ballina FRC in conjunction with Mayo Sports Partnership and Pat O’Brien is running a fitness programme for men of all ages. Classes include Circuit Training, Hill Walking, Kettle Bells, Pilates and Swimming. It will be on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 10.30am in Ballina Family Resource Abbey Street. The programme this week will be on Wednesday June 15 and will be Fit Walking. The cost is €5. Le Chéile Family Resource Centre (FRC) celebrated Bealtaine in style by having a coffee morning for the community on May 30. Bealtaine provides the opportunity to celebrate creativity in older age and Castlebar’s Le Chéile FRC did just that. The coffee morning was officially started by Mayor of Castlebar Councillor Gerard Deere. The crowd were entertained by Mayo’s finest Politically Correct, and Tommy Fleming dropped by for a sing-song and a cup of tea. The whole event was broadcast live on the Johnny Oosten show on Castlebar Community Radio.

Shrule and District Vintage Club has announced its third annual rally in Castlehacket Estate, Belclare, Tuam, on Sunday June 12 2011. The previous two events were an enormous success with exhibitors from all over the west of Ireland displaying their classic and vintage cars, tractors, motor cycles, etc, and each event was attended by more than 4,000 people on the day.
